Dry Eyes - Contacts -Drs not helping me?
Ok, I've worn contacts for about 6 years now. I've been to three doctors lets see if anyone else can help.
If i wear contacts and i take them out at night the next morning when i wake up and for most of the day my eyes are CRAZY dry. No drops that i have tried worked OTC or prescription. My last dr actually said she didnt know whats goin on. Like so dry i can barely open my eyes. and PAINFUL sometimes.
Thinking about having lasik but if i still get this dry eye crap im done, ill just go without. I hate glasses my vision is not that bad (20/30) but with my job i have to wear contacts because I have to drive with corrected lenses.
Can anyone help me out?

I have dry eyes and have been researching them intensely, and this is the best site. you can also go to allaboutvision.com, and dry eye info sites.
Be VERY careful with your contacts. Rigid contacts cause corneal damage and dry eyes over time. Soft contacts dry and stick to your eyes, causing other damages to your surface and tear film. Overall, soft contacts are better and can hold moisture better. It is good to try many brands as well.
Ask those around you if you sleep with your eyes open, which if you have dry eyes, let's dry surface be exposed to damages for very long periods of time.
I have severe dry eyes, but I have responded to prescription medicines. Here is what I suggest, in order:
Try EVERY over the counter drop - from water-based to lubricants to oil emollients to gels - everything
Punctal Plugs
Restasis (reduces eye inflammation, this has been gold for me!)
Steriod Drops
If you haven't tried all of them, ask your doctor about them. If you reach the end of this list, ask your doctor/s about alternatives, and as the baby boomers are having many problems (please don't be offended by this comment, I have severe problems at 17 - it sucks), research funds have grown exponentially.
There is one last resort that I hope it doesn't come to. That would be to sew your eyelids partly shut.
I feel your pain, before restasis I didn't leave my house, except for school, for a month, and couldn't even focus enough to read. I hope something I've suggested helps you, and good luck!
