How bad is it to soak rigid/hard contact lenses in solution meant for soft contact lenses?
I'm running a little low on the conditioning/soaking solution for my rigid/hard contact lenses and I'm currently in a third world country where the rigid conditioning/soaking solution seems nonexistent in markets, pharmacies, and optical stores--how bad would it be if I bought a container of the soft contact lens conditioning/soaking solution? Is there some other substance that would be better? (Water?)
It isn't recommended. But, you *can* use soft contact solution on hard lenses. Though you CANNOT use hard contact solution for soft contacts.
Hard contacts are a plexiglass type of plastic material and are much less permeable than soft contacts , therefore the hard contact solutions will ruin soft contacts as the soft contact will absorb it.
Conversely, soft contact solution isn't adequate for hard contacts.. so it posses risk of being ineffective.
So you can use it, if it is ALL you have of course.. but I would try to look online or find some way to get some proper cleaner/conditioner solutions for your RGP/hard lenses.
See if you can call any of the eye doctors around.. even from where you are from -- you may be able to get someone (even a family member or friend) to ship you the proper solution.
