What's contact lense prescription expiration mean?
I'm new to this and I want to know what it means.
What will happen if the prescription expires. Can i still buy contact lenses from other stores?
Are you talking about the expiration date on the package of disposable contacts? Or the solution for non-disposable lenses? The actual prescription for the contacts themselves doesn't expire, but as it's based partially on the measurments of your eye, they usually recommend you have a recheck every year. The disposable contacts are packed in a disinfectant solution, but since the passage of time will cause that to break down, the contact lenses might not be sterile. The same for disinfectant solution, like all medications it has a certain shelf life, after which the company can't guarentee it is strong enough to do the job. Since you will be putting this stuff in your eye, the last thing you want to be doing is dropping in a few bacteria along with the contacts. Otherwise, the prescription itself doesn't expire. But your eyes can change, and it's a good idea to have it rechecked again in a year just to reverify the script is still valid.
